Alexandre Bouzlov

Alexandre Bouzlov was born in Moscow in 1983 and began studying the cello at the age of 6. Already by age 14 he had gained recognition, and was invited to perform at Mstislav Rostropovich's 70th birthday concert, as well as to participate in the 2nd International Cello Congress in St. Petersburg. Soon thereafter he entered the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied cello with Natalia Gutman - who is likewise featured here at the Classical Archives.

Mr. Bouzlov is the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions, including 1st Prize awards in the 1996 Mozart Competition (Monte Carlo), the Virtuosos of the 21st Competition (St. Petersburg, 1997), the 2000 New Names Foundation Competition (Moscow), the 2001 Young Concert Artists Auditions, and the 35th Jeunesse Musicale International Cello Competition (Belgrade, 2005); as well as 2nd Prize in the 54th International Competition of the ARD (Munich, 2005), and the Leyda Unger Prize at the 2004 Pablo Casals International Cello Competition (Kronberg, Germany). He has also been awarded the 2004 Guzik Foundation Career Grant.

His awards have led to a very active concert career thus far, having performed throughout Russia and Europe, as well as in numerous concerts in the US, including Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, and Lincoln Center - where he performed Lalo's Cello Concerto with Leonard Slatkin conducting the Orchestra of St. Luke's. Mr. Bouzlov has likewise performed in Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia. Among the other ensembles he has appeared with include the Moscow Chamber Orchestra under Constantine Orbelian, the Mobile Symphony, the Moscow Virtuosi under Vladimir Spivakov, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra under Alexandre Vedernikov, among many others.
