The International Opera Foundation was founded in 2004 by tenor Sergey Gaydey, and is dedicated to supporting and developing both established and young Russian artists within the fields of opera and ballet. The Foundation represents ensembles and soloists within several top Russian theaters, including the Bolshevik and Marian, as well as organizes foreign tours. Among the key goals of the Foundation is to stage rare and little-known operas, both Russian and European. At the same time, they embrace the gems of the opera repertory, as heard in the selections found here at the Classical Archives - performances recorded during a New Year's gala held at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, featuring vocal stars of the Bolshoi Theater: sopranos Maria Gavrilova and Larisa Rudakova, mezzo-soprano Margarita Mamsirova, tenors Sergey Gaydey and Erik Kurmangaliev, baritone Andrey Grioriev, and bass Mikhail Kazakov.

The founder of the Foundation, tenor Sergey Gaydey is, as mentioned, one of the leading soloist with the Moscow Bolshoi Theater. He studied voice at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and has since won several prestigious vocal competitions - including the "Hope Prize" at the 16th International Glinka Competition (1995), 1st Prize at the 1st International Vocal Competition Zimin (1997), among others. He has appeared in professional opera productions and festivals in Russia, France, Italy, Spain, England, Austria, Japan, and the USA. Among his key operatic roles include La Bohème (Rudolfo), Turandot (Calaf), La Traviata (Alfredo), Rigoleto (Duke of Mantua), Lucia di Lammermoor (Edgardo), Carmen (Don José), Eugene Onegin (Lensky), Iolanta (Vodemon); Boris Gudunov (the Fool), The Tsar's Bride (Lykov), The Love of Three Oranges (the Prince), and many others. We are very pleased to feature this talented vocalist and impresario here at the Classical Archives.
