 Boris Jurgenson
|
The Jurgenson Musical Salon is dedicated principally to the support of new works by Russian composers, thus reviving the esteemed tradition of the P.I.Jurgenson Publishing Company. Founded in 1861, with the help of Nicholas Rubinstein, Jurgenson issued the first publications of works by many of Russia's most important composers - including Tchaikovsky, Glinka, and Rachmaninov.
Today the Jurgenson Musical Salon sponsors a number of events, each taking place in the beautiful drawing room of the Jurgenson mansion in Moscow. While the principal focus is the presentation of new Russian works, the Musical Salon likewise spotlights other activities. These include concerts featuring old and forgotten masterworks, visiting virtuosi from various Russian cities, gifted young performers, concerts centered on notable musical anniversaries, and roundtable discussions on performance practice and other topics.
The primary focus, though, is the Festival of the Music of Young Russian Composers, a joint project of the Jurgenson Foundation and the Composers' Union of Russia. The festival consists of a series of concerts of piano and chamber music by young composers from throughout Russia. The aim is to help facilitate broader recognition for gifted young composers through performance and publication of their works. Organizers of the festival include Boris Jurgenson, V.V.Zaderatsky, V.G.Rozhvovsky, A.A.Rovner, K.A.Umansky, and Anastasia Jurgenson.
Each of the composers featured here demonstrate the great talent of Russian music today, and we encourage you to explore each of the works on the Jurgenson Musical Salon page of the Classical Archives. We look forward to receiving highlights of future festival concerts from the Jurgenson Musical Salon.
